BKT Waluj Plant Wins CII National Water Award for 25% Water Reduction
Maharashtra facility recognized for outstanding water conservation efforts and sustainable manufacturing practices in tyre industry.
Balkrishna Industries Ltd.'s manufacturing facility in Waluj, Maharashtra, has been honored with the CII National Water Award 2025, a prestigious recognition for excellence in water stewardship across Indian industries.
The Confederation of Indian Industry presented the award to the BKT plant in New Delhi on November 19, 2025, acknowledging the facility's significant achievements in water conservation and resource management. Over a two-year period, the Waluj plant reduced its water consumption by 25% through incremental process improvements and disciplined operational practices.
The award recognizes organizations demonstrating leadership in sustainable water management. BKT's Waluj facility achieved its water reduction targets through a series of small-scale improvements, known as Kaizens in manufacturing terminology, combined with consistent monitoring and daily follow-ups.
According to Mr. Swapnil Vyas, Assistant Vice President (Operations) at BKT Waluj, the recognition validates the team's commitment to environmental sustainability. "This recognition reinforces our belief that consistent efforts and a culture of discipline can lead to significant environmental impact," Vyas stated.
Beyond water conservation, the Waluj plant reported additional operational improvements in October 2025, including reduced scrap rates, optimized energy consumption, enhanced first-time quality metrics, and improved safety standards.
The CII National Water Award positions recipients as nationally recognized leaders in sustainable water stewardship, elevating them beyond basic regulatory compliance. For BKT, the award underscores the company's broader commitment to sustainable practices within the off-highway tyre manufacturing sector.
BKT manufactures specialty tyres for agricultural, industrial, earthmoving, mining, and other off-highway applications. The company operates globally, selling over 3,600 products across 163 countries. The manufacturer has also recently expanded into rubber track production.
The water conservation achievement at Waluj demonstrates how manufacturing facilities can integrate environmental sustainability with operational efficiency, setting benchmarks for the tyre industry in resource management and environmental stewardship.
