BharatBenz Opens 11,550ft Leh Workshop With PPS Trucking

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has inaugurated a BharatBenz commercial vehicle service centre in Leh, Ladakh, in collaboration with PPS Trucking. The facility is located at an altitude of approximately 11,550 feet and is positioned to serve commercial vehicles operating across Leh, Kargil, Drass and areas towards the Leh-China border. DICV describes it as India’s highest-altitude commercial vehicle workshop.

The 20,000 sq ft facility is located in Phey Village along NH-1 on the Leh-Srinagar-Uri Highway. It is a 3S (Sales, Service and Spares) touchpoint, with service support aimed at vehicles used in stone-crushing operations, road construction by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and transportation of communication tower infrastructure.

According to DICV, operators in the region previously had to travel considerable distances for authorised service and genuine spare parts. The company said the new facility is intended to reduce service turnaround times and improve access to technicians and critical spare parts.

BharatBenz Leh Workshop Capacity And Facilities

The workshop has three service bays and a stated annual capacity of more than 1,400 vehicles. It is equipped with diagnostic systems, workshop tools and BharatBenz spare parts, while 24x7 roadside assistance will also be available for on-road breakdowns.

More than 20 trained technicians will operate the facility. The workshop also includes dedicated driver rest areas and customer amenities, while PPS Trucking said it will maintain spare parts inventory in the region to support faster turnaround.

BharatBenz Trucks In Leh And Ladakh

The facility is expected to support BharatBenz trucks deployed in Leh's stone-crushing industry and other construction-related operations. DICV said the region's infrastructure activity includes road and building construction, while ongoing construction also creates demand for ready-mix concrete (RMC).

The company said vehicles operating in Ladakh face steep gradients, extreme weather and difficult terrain. The workshop's location is intended to provide service and spare-parts access closer to operators working along the region's heavy-duty transport corridor.

Rajiv Chaturvedi, President and Chief Business Officer, DICV, said the new facility is intended to address service-access challenges faced by operators in Ladakh and adjoining border areas by bringing repairs, spare parts and technical support closer to their operating locations.

Rajiv Sanghvi, Managing Director, PPS Trucking, said the collaboration is part of the company's expansion of its commercial vehicle service network in the region.
