BGauss Builds Common EV Architecture Around Component Validation Time

The new modular platform will underpin multiple products as BGauss scales volumes and seeks to shorten development cycles.

BGauss is building its next electric two-wheeler programme around a common vehicle architecture. Company founder Hemant Kabra sees component validation time as a bigger constraint on development than assembling the vehicle itself, while stating the purpose of the new WSA platform.

“The amount of time you take to prove the component is way more than the amount of time you take to do the vehicle,” Kabra said. 

The new platform, introduced with the C12 MaxR at an event in Pune on Wednesday, can accommodate different motor, battery and wheel configurations. BGauss plans to develop a few products on the platform, although he did not specify the number or launch timelines. Kabra says “once your platform is ready, once your motor platforms are ready, then your go-to-market strategy becomes faster.”     

The shift comes as BGauss is now operating at higher volumes. FADA data show the company recorded 26,201 two-wheeler retail registrations in FY2026, up 51% from 17,343 in FY2025. In July 2026, registrations rose 213% year on year to 5,518 units, while August registrations stood at 4,845 units, up about 180% from a year earlier. Although the Mumbai based EV maker owned a fraction of market share in the previous financial year, it is one of the fastest scaling players in the electric two wheeler segment. 

The C12 MaxR also introduces BGauss' HyperZen in-wheel motor architecture, which integrates the motor, gear transmission, braking system and motor control unit. The company says the arrangement removes the conventional belt or chain drive and reduces wiring and packaging complexity.

BGauss has not disclosed the engineering time or investment savings expected from the common platform. Kabra's description of the strategy suggests the company wants to reuse validated vehicle and motor architectures across products rather than repeat the development process for each model.

The C12 MaxR extends BGauss' existing BG Max C12 commuter range. The company also sells the RUV 350 utility range and the OoWah range. The MaxR has an ARAI-certified range of 178 km, a top speed of 75 kmph and 38 litres of storage.
