BatX Energies, a lithium-ion battery recycling and sustainable energy solutions company, has entered into a strategic partnership with LW3 Pvt. Ltd., a company focusing in Digital Product Passport (DPP) solutions using blockchain and IoT technologies. The collaboration aims to improve battery lifecycle management by offering a traceable and sustainable solution for energy storage systems (ESS).
This partnership will utilize LW3's DPP to enable detailed tracking of battery history, usage, and material origins from production to end-of-life. The goal aligns with BatX’s focus on promoting a circular economy within the energy sector.
Utkarsh Singh, CEO of BatX Energies, explained that the partnership with LW3 aligns with BatX's vision of establishing a circular economy for battery materials in India and beyond. He highlighted that digital passports will enhance transparency throughout the recycling process and supply chain, helping to meet global regulations and scale operations.
This collaboration will address the challenge of traceability in cross-border battery scrap movement, particularly for non-OECD countries like India. The initiative is expected to assist electric vehicle (EV) original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and battery manufacturers in achieving their sustainability goals and simplifying Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance.
The integration of LW3’s IoT and blockchain technologies into BatX’s recycling framework aims to improve material accountability and help meet compliance requirements, especially in markets like Europe. The collaboration introduces blockchain-based solutions into BatX’s reverse logistics, ensuring secure and transparent collection of end-of-life (EOL) batteries.
Abhijit Pegu, Co-founder and CEO of LW3 Pvt. Ltd., expressed optimism about the partnership, noting that their shared focus on sustainability and innovation makes this collaboration suitable for setting new standards in battery recycling both in India and globally.
The partnership also supports global digital product passport standards, including the European Union’s CIRPASS initiative. LW3’s solutions will help BatX assist its partners in meeting battery recycling and reuse requirements, promoting better environmental practices internationally.
Both companies are focused on advancing a circular economy by improving the lifecycle of battery materials through the use of advanced technology. They will explore joint fundraising opportunities to expand battery recycling technologies, creating potential investment prospects.
Their partnership was further strengthened through their participation in the India-EU TTC Working Group 2 Matchmaking Event for Battery Recycling Technology, organised by the Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India, and the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission. This event provided an opportunity for cross-border collaboration on innovations in battery recycling and circular economy practices in India and the European Union.
