Balu Forge Industries Ltd has acquired a ring rolling production line capable of producing forged rings with an outer diameter of up to 6.7 metres and a maximum ring weight of 18 metric tons, the company announced on September 3, 2026. The acquisition positions Balu Forge among the largest ring rolling facilities in India by installed capacity, marking a shift in the scale of components the company can manufacture domestically.
The new line adds 18,000 tons of specialised ring rolling capacity to the company's existing operations and is expected to begin production trials before the end of 2026. The equipment is designed to manufacture seamless forged rings for a range of industries including wind energy, aerospace, defence, nuclear power, oil and gas, mining, heavy engineering, and marine.
Ring rolling is a metal-forming process in which a thick ring-shaped workpiece is gradually reduced in cross-section and expanded in diameter using rotating rollers. The process produces seamless rings with consistent mechanical properties, which are used as structural and load-bearing components in machinery and infrastructure where weld seams would introduce potential failure points. At the scale enabled by Balu Forge's new equipment — rings up to 6.7 metres across — the components are among the largest that can be manufactured through this method.

A stated objective of the acquisition is to reduce India's dependence on imported large-format forged and precision-machined parts. Domestic production of such components has historically been constrained by the limited scale of available equipment, with ultra-large rings typically sourced from overseas manufacturers in countries such as China, Germany, and South Korea.
The production line is expected to serve a broad range of end markets. In the wind energy segment, it is intended to manufacture tower flanges, yaw rings, pitch bearings, and slewing rings used in onshore and offshore turbines. For aerospace and defence, the equipment is designed to produce high-integrity structural rings, rocket motor casings, jet engine components — including compressor drums and turbine shrouds — and precision bearing rings used in aerospace actuation systems. The line is also designed to serve space launch vehicle programmes, producing structural rings, adapter flanges, and rocket motor casing segments.
In the nuclear and power generation sector, the equipment is expected to produce seamless retaining rings, large generator components, and pressure vessel rings built to meet regulatory safety standards. For oil and gas, it will manufacture subsea connectors, blowout preventers, large industrial valves, and pipeline flanges designed to withstand deep-sea pressures. The mining and marine segment will be served with gear blanks, bearing races, excavator slewing rings, and marine propulsion shaft components. The company also cited applications in heavy railway equipment, including components for custom heavy-haul machinery, large cranes, and industrial tunnel-boring systems.
Balu Forge Industries Ltd is headquartered in Mumbai and operates manufacturing facilities in Belgaum, Karnataka, across a campus of more than 46 acres. Founded by Prehlad Singh Chandock, the company produces forged and machined components ranging from 1 kg to 1,500 kg, serving markets in automotive, industrial, energy, and defence sectors globally. Its facilities include hydraulic hammers, forging presses, a dedicated in-house tool room, metallurgical laboratories, and CNC machining units. Prior to this acquisition, the company's product range extended to components up to 3 metres in length; the new ring rolling line extends that ceiling to 6.7 metres in outer diameter, adding a product category the company had not previously been able to address at scale.
