Bajaj Auto Limited reported mixed performance in its two-wheeler business for August 2025, with robust export growth of 25% helping offset a 12% decline in domestic sales. The motorcycle and scooter manufacturer sold 3,41,887 two-wheeler units in August, representing a modest 2% increase over the same period last year.
The company's two-wheeler division demonstrated the dual nature of market dynamics, with international markets showing strong appetite for Bajaj's motorcycles while domestic demand remained subdued. Export sales reached 1,57,778 units in August 2025, up from 1,26,557 units in the previous year, marking a significant 25% growth.
However, domestic two-wheeler sales continued their downward trajectory, falling to 1,84,109 units from 2,08,621 units in August 2024. This 12% decline reflects ongoing challenges in the Indian motorcycle market, including changing consumer preferences and economic factors affecting buyer sentiment.
For the April-August period, the two-wheeler segment's year-to-date performance shows similar trends. While domestic sales declined 11% to 8,52,732 units, export growth of 18% to 7,34,193 units helped maintain overall stability in the segment.
Bajaj Auto's commercial vehicle division, primarily comprising three-wheelers, delivered standout performance in August with total sales jumping 21% to 75,729 units. This segment has emerged as a key growth driver for the company.
Export performance in commercial vehicles was particularly impressive, with overseas sales surging 58% to 27,440 units compared to 17,420 units in August 2024. The strong international demand for Bajaj's three-wheelers reflects the company's expanding footprint in emerging markets where these vehicles serve as crucial last-mile connectivity solutions.
Domestic commercial vehicle sales also contributed positively, growing 7% to 48,289 units from 45,206 units in the previous year. This growth indicates steady demand in the Indian market for commercial three-wheelers used in passenger and goods transportation.
The year-to-date commercial vehicle performance reinforces this positive trend, with total sales growing 14% to 3,07,928 units. Export sales have been the standout performer with a remarkable 47% growth to 1,10,311 units, while domestic sales maintained a steady 1% increase.
Bajaj Auto's consolidated performance for August 2025 reflected the strength of its diversified portfolio. Total vehicle sales across two-wheelers and commercial vehicles reached 4,17,616 units, representing a healthy 5% increase from 3,97,804 units in August 2024.
The company's export-focused strategy continued to pay dividends, with total exports growing 29% to 1,85,218 units. This strong international performance helped compensate for the 8% decline in domestic sales to 2,32,398 units.
For the five-month period from April to August 2025, Bajaj Auto sold 18,94,853 units, marking a 2% increase over the corresponding period last year. Export sales drove this growth with a 21% increase to 8,44,504 units, while domestic sales declined 9% to 10,50,349 units.
The August sales data reinforces Bajaj Auto's successful international expansion strategy. The company's strong presence in markets across Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia has provided a crucial buffer against domestic market volatility.
The commercial vehicle segment's exceptional performance, particularly the 58% growth in exports, highlights the growing global demand for affordable and efficient three-wheeler solutions. This segment's success demonstrates Bajaj's ability to leverage its engineering capabilities beyond traditional two-wheelers.
While domestic two-wheeler sales face headwinds from various factors including regulatory changes and evolving consumer preferences, Bajaj's established export channels and diverse product portfolio position the company well to navigate market challenges.
