Total sales drop 6% YoY as company follows strong electric two-wheeler performance with mixed results.

After a strong performance in March 2025, Bajaj Auto Limited reported a 6% year-on-year decline in total sales for April 2025, with dispatches totaling 365,810 units compared to 388,256 units in April 2024, according to company data released today.
The April figures come after Bajaj Auto registered its best-ever monthly retail sales of 34,863 Chetak electric scooters in March 2025, which helped the company capture the top position in the electric two-wheeler market for the second consecutive month. The company had concluded FY2025 with total annual Chetak sales of 230,761 units, representing 116% year-on-year growth and capturing 20% market share in the electric two-wheeler segment.
The latest data shows Bajaj Auto's two-wheeler segment registered total sales of 317,937 units in April 2025, marking a 7% decline from 341,789 units in the same month last year. Domestic two-wheeler sales were particularly affected, dropping 13% to 188,615 units from 216,950 units in April 2024. However, two-wheeler exports showed positive momentum with a 4% increase, reaching 129,322 units compared to 124,839 units in the corresponding period last year.
While the April report does not provide a specific breakdown for electric two-wheeler sales, the significant drop in domestic two-wheeler volumes suggests a potential cooling off after March's record performance, when the company delivered approximately 1,124 Chetak scooters daily.
The commercial vehicle business presented a more positive picture, with overall sales increasing by 3% to 47,873 units in April 2025 from 46,467 units in April 2024. While domestic commercial vehicle sales remained nearly flat at 32,000 units (a marginal decrease from 32,133 units), exports in this segment showed strong growth of 11%, with volumes reaching 15,873 units compared to 14,334 units in April 2024.
In total, Bajaj Auto's domestic sales across both segments declined by 11% to 220,615 units from 249,083 units year-on-year, while total exports increased by 4% to 145,195 units from 139,173 units in April 2024.
The company's strong performance in the electric two-wheeler segment through FY2025 was driven in part by the new 35 Series launched in December 2024. The 35 Series Chetak comprises three variants – 3501, 3502 and 3503 – and offers an extended range of 153km, which helped accelerate sales particularly in the final quarter of the fiscal year.
