Top story

We deep dive into the world of automotive lightweighting and why has it become a focus area. With stricter regulations on emissions and a global push towards sustainability, automakers are under pressure to increase fuel efficiency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For ICE, lighter vehicles require less energy to move, leading to improved fuel efficiency. In the case of electric vehicles (EVs), reducing weight directly translates to increased range.

Lightweighting encourages the development of advanced materials such as carbon fibre, aluminium, and high-strength steel. While lightweight materials may initially be more expensive, the long-term benefits often outweigh the initial investment. We also engaged with some of the industry’s biggest R&D professionals to understand the progress and scope for further developments in this aspect.
