Ather Energy Reaches 500,000 Electric Scooter Production Milestone
The company hits 500,000 e-scooter production mark, led by strong Rizta demand, as it scales up capacity with a new Industry 4.0 plant in Maharashtra.
Ather Energy Limited has announced the production of its 500,000th electric scooter at its manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The milestone vehicle was a Rizta model, the company's family-oriented scooter that launched last year.
The achievement marks a significant production benchmark for the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer, which delivered its first scooter to market in 2018.
Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, acknowledged the milestone as a reflection of the company's manufacturing capabilities. "Crossing 5,00,000 scooters is a major milestone for Ather," Jain stated, crediting the achievement to engineering focus, quality control processes, and support from the company's customer base.
The Rizta model has emerged as a key product for Ather, representing over one-third of the company's total production volume within its first year. The company has been expanding its market presence in Middle and North India, with particular emphasis on tier 2 and tier 3 cities alongside metropolitan areas.
Ather currently operates two facilities in Hosur—one for vehicle assembly and one for battery production—with a combined annual capacity of 420,000 scooters.
The company is developing a third facility, designated Factory 3.0, in Bidkin, AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The new facility will be constructed in two phases using Industry 4.0 manufacturing principles, incorporating advanced digital technologies. When fully operational, Factory 3.0 is expected to increase Ather's total annual production capacity to 1.42 million electric two-wheelers across all facilities.
Founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Ather Energy manufactures electric scooters across two product lines: the performance-focused Ather 450 series and the family-oriented Rizta line. The company's portfolio currently includes eight variants.
Ather established the first dedicated fast-charging network for two-wheelers in India, known as the Ather Grid. As of June 30, 2025, the company has installed 4,032 fast and neighborhood chargers globally, with 3,997 located across India and 35 in Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The company holds 318 registered trademarks, 204 registered designs, and 48 registered patents as of June 30, 2025, with additional applications pending for 88 trademarks, 27 designs, and 383 patents globally.
