Ather Energy has donated 100 ISI-certified Ather Junior helmets to the Bengaluru Traffic Police as part of National Road Safety Month observances. The helmets will be distributed across the city to raise awareness about child safety on two-wheelers.
The initiative addresses a critical gap in road safety. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Annual Report 2023, over 54,000 riders and pillion passengers who died in road crashes were not wearing helmets, representing more than 31 percent of total road fatalities in India. Two-wheelers account for the highest share of road accident deaths in the country.
A July 2024 survey by the Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group found helmet usage among children to be significantly low. Young passengers face greater vulnerability in crashes due to limited physical and cognitive development, while parents often struggle to find properly fitting helmets for children.
The Ather Junior helmets are designed to address this challenge by combining safety certification with child-friendly designs. Available in three variants — Astro, Big Bee, and Unicorn — the helmets come in multiple sizes for children aged three to nine years. The World Health Organization states that proper helmet use can reduce the risk of death by over six times and brain injury by up to 74 percent.

"With Ather Junior helmets, we're extending that commitment to children who ride as pillions. Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness around child safety on two-wheelers and help families build strong safety habits early."
The company's broader safety approach includes advanced features across its electric scooter lineup. These include FallSafe, which cuts power during a fall; SkidControl, which prevents wheel slip on uneven surfaces; and Multi-Mode Traction Control for better handling. Additional features such as Crash Alerts, Live Location Sharing, and ParkSafe provide enhanced security for riders.
