Chennai-based Ashok Leyland has declared an increase of 10% year-on-year in total vehicle sales for April 2024. This includes domestic as well as export numbers. The medium and heavy vehicles manufacturer has declared combined sales of 14,271 in April 2024 up from 12,974 units in the same month last year.
The company’s domestic medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) Truck sales have decreased slightly to 6,537 from 6,656 in the same period last year, a 2% fall. However there has been a substantial growth in the M&HCV Bus segment which has increased to 2,074 from 766 in April 2023; a growth of 171%. The Light commercial vehicles (LCV) segment has also fallen by 2% with a sale of 4,835 units from 4,944 last year. This has led to an overall increase of 9% in the domestic sales of the company with total figures showing 13,446 units sold this year as against 12,366 last year.
The domestic plus exports figures also paint a similar picture. There is a slight drop of 1% in the M&HCV Truck sales and a significant increase of 115% in M&HCV Bus combined sales. LCV sales units have shown an increase of 2% when domestic and exports figures are combined.
