Ashok Leyland Expands LCV Network in Odisha With New Rourkela Dealership

Ashok Leyland has expanded its light commercial vehicle (LCV) distribution network in Odisha by inaugurating a new dealership in Rourkela. The facility, operated by channel partner SteelEx India, marks the company’s seventh LCV outlet in the state.

Located at Brahmani Tarang in Vedvyas, the dealership is a 3S (sales, service and spares) facility equipped with 12 service bays. The outlet is intended to improve access to both sales and after-sales support in the region.

With this addition, Ashok Leyland’s LCV network now comprises more than 945 customer touchpoints across India. The company currently retails multiple products in the segment, including BADA DOST, DOST, SAATHI, PARTNER and MiTR. The expansion comes as part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in regional markets where demand for last-mile and intra-city logistics vehicles is increasing. Odisha has been identified as a key market in this context, particularly for small and light commercial vehicles.

Ashok Leyland has also been expanding its light commercial vehicle portfolio to address a wider range of payload requirements and applications. A recent addition is the SAATHI, positioned in the sub-2-ton segment. The SCV is powered by a 45 hp engine producing 110 Nm of torque and offers a payload capacity of 1,120 kg, along with a larger loading area for its category.

Within the mid-LCV segment, the BADA DOST range is built on a dedicated platform and is available in multiple variants, including i2, i3+, i5, i5XL, i5+ and i6. The range is equipped with an 80 hp BS6-compliant engine and is targeted at applications requiring higher payload capacity and longer load bodies. It is positioned for both intra-city and inter-city operations, supported by features such as a lower turning radius and higher ground clearance.

The DOST lineup, comprising DOST XL and DOST+ XL, continues to cater to entry and mid-level cargo transport requirements, particularly for last-mile delivery and small business use cases. These models are positioned for operators prioritising operational efficiency and load flexibility across short-haul routes.

In the higher payload category, the PARTNER range addresses the 4-ton segment and is available in both 4-tyre and 6-tyre configurations. Built on an established international platform and powered by a ZD30 CRDI engine, it is aimed at applications requiring higher durability and load-carrying capacity.

The MiTR bus range extends the portfolio into passenger mobility, with variants configured for staff and school transportation. The school bus version complies with regulatory safety norms, while both variants are positioned for frequent stop-and-go operations typical of urban routes.
