Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Wednesday reported a 32 percent increase in domestic commercial vehicle sales to 17,568 units in February, primarily due to infrastructure and construction-led demand.

The company had sold 13,281 units in the same month last year, Ashok Leyland said in a release.

Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales rose 42 percent to 11,767 units last month compared to 8,280 units in the year-ago month. Higher tonnage vehicle sales increased as mining activity increased, the overall macroeconomic environment improved, and fleet utilisation levels remained healthy.

Sales of light commercial vehicles in the domestic market were up 16 percent at 5,801 units, against 5,001 units in February 2022, the company said.

According to a Nomura report, dealer surveys indicated some pre-buying for CVs as prices are likely to rise by 3-4 percent from April post the implementation of real driving emissions (RDE) norms.

The company's total sales (domestic plus exports) increased by 27 percent to 18,571 units in February 2022, up from 14,657 units in February 2022.
