The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) has revealed its projections of enrolling around 100,000 fresh skilled employees in the Indian automotive workforce in FY2023-24, as the industry looks poised to continue its growth momentum across vehicle segments.
The nodal skilling body showcased its initiatives at the recently-concluded Auto Expo 2023 in Greater Noida as well as Pragati Maidan, and stressed upon the need for increased industry-academia collaboration as well as clearly demarcating a candidate’s career path for enhanced commitment and reduced attrition.
According to Arindam Lahiri, CEO, ASDC, “The industry has a lot of requirements and as a council, we anticipate hiring more than one lakh candidates for the industry in this financial year (FY2023-24). While this will not serve the entire requirement of the industry, we look forward to being able to handle this kind of volume.”
ASDC highlighted the importance of hiring talent with the right skill sets for a particular job, and showcased its role to duly assess, and certify every candidate so that he or she is able to perform up to the job requirements. In such a way, the employer is also able to retain the talent and the industry’s skill mismatch challenge while doing recruitments gets solved.
"In terms of retaining talent, it is most important that the organisation needs to show a career growth path for the students, as well as enhance the quality of engagement with the people that they are hiring as apprentices and interns," said Lahiri.
Inaugurating the ASDC exhibit stall at the Auto Expo, Vinod Aggarwal, president, SIAM, said, "In a bid to attract youth, it is very important for the industry and sector Skill Council to have an outreach programme at various exhibitions as well as academic institution campuses. It will allow the industry to engage with the youth and give them an exposure about the potential of the automotive industry."
