Aptiv PLC has announced a significant partnership with a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in India to supply its Generation 6 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) platform for future trucks and buses.
The collaboration represents Aptiv's first ADAS partnership with an Indian commercial vehicle OEM and comes ahead of anticipated 2027 regulations. These regulations are expected to mandate safety features including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, blind spot detection, and pedestrian and obstacle detection systems for new commercial vehicles.
The Gen 6 ADAS platform combines Aptiv's Generation 8 radar and Generation 7 smart camera technology with STRADVISION's AI-based vision system. The solution has been specifically adapted to recognize Indian road conditions, including detection of three-wheelers, large animals, and vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Intelligent Systems at Aptiv, emphasized the company's readiness to support Indian OEMs with cost-effective safety solutions tested for local needs. The technology builds on systems already deployed in millions of vehicles across Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific.
Built on a uni-voltage architecture, the platform will be implemented across 14 commercial vehicle models and more than 30 variants for the unnamed OEM partner. The system utilizes Aptiv's modular ADAS software, currently in production on over 40 million vehicles globally, and supports over-the-air updates through Aptiv's LINC Software Platform and Wind River's VxWorks real-time operating system.
Commercial vehicle applications present unique challenges compared to passenger cars, including larger blind spots, harsh operating environments, heavy-duty driving cycles, and extended operating hours. The platform addresses these requirements while reducing system complexity compared to conventional configurations.
The partnership follows substantial investments by Aptiv in India's automotive sector. The company opened a technical center in Chennai in 2025 and expanded its manufacturing facility there in 2024. Aptiv India currently employs 2,500 engineers and 13,000 total employees across seven manufacturing sites, four technical centers, and one tooling center nationwide.
Arun Devaraj, Vice President and Managing Director of Intelligent Systems for Aptiv Asia Pacific (Non-China), noted that India's mobility ecosystem is experiencing rapid evolution driven by regulatory and consumer expectations. The partnership demonstrates Aptiv's strategy of working closely with OEMs to ensure regulatory compliance and optimized performance.
The announcement positions Aptiv to play a key role in India's commercial vehicle safety transformation as the industry prepares for stricter safety standards in the coming years.
