Two manufacturing facilities operated by Apollo Tyres Ltd have received the British Safety Council's Sword of Honour, a prestigious international award recognizing excellence in health and safety management systems.
The Chennai and Limda plants were honored following their achievement of five-star ratings in the British Safety Council's Occupational Health and Safety Audit conducted several months prior. The Chennai facility received an additional special award for Innovation and Development.
Yoichi Sato, Chief Quality and Safety Officer at Apollo Tyres Ltd, accepted the awards alongside unit heads C Thomasmathew of Chennai and Piush Bansal of Limda. The recognition acknowledges organizations that maintain exceptional standards in workplace health, safety, and employee wellbeing.
The Sword of Honour is awarded annually to organizations worldwide that achieve the highest audit scores and demonstrate sustained excellence in safety management throughout the evaluation period from August 2024 to July 2025.
According to the British Safety Council, recipients must present evidence of a proven track record and culture of best practice that extends throughout their operations. The 2025 awards represent the 46th consecutive year the organization has recognized health and safety management excellence.
Peter McGettrick, Chairman of British Safety Council, noted that achieving this recognition requires significant dedication and professionalism. Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the Council, emphasized the importance of organizations committed to maintaining safe workplaces and protecting the environment.
Apollo Tyres operates multiple manufacturing units in India, along with facilities in The Netherlands and Hungary. The company markets products under its Apollo and Vredestein brands across more than 100 countries.
