Amazon India has announced plans to deploy around 1,000 electric trucks developed with VE Commercial Vehicles to support the expansion of its quick commerce service, Amazon Now, across India.

The fleet will comprise custom-built Eicher Pro-X electric trucks designed for high-frequency intra-city logistics operations. These vehicles are intended to transport goods between Amazon’s larger fulfilment hubs located on city outskirts and micro-fulfilment centres positioned closer to customers.

Amazon said it has already deployed around 50 of these electric trucks and plans to scale the fleet to more than 1,000 units by 2028. The vehicles are expected to operate across daily routes of 100-180 km and support multiple trips with a fast-charging time of approximately 50 minutes. Initial deployment will begin in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

The deployment comes as Amazon accelerates the rollout of Amazon Now, its ultra-fast delivery platform. The company recently announced plans to expand the service to 100 cities across India and increase its network to over 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres. Cities identified for expansion include Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Mangalore and Visakhapatnam.

Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, Amazon India and Australia, said the company currently has more than 12,000 EVs deployed across India and is continuing to integrate electric mobility into its logistics operations.

VECV said the Eicher Pro-X trucks were co-developed with Amazon specifically for e-commerce and quick commerce applications. The companies have been working together since 2022 on electric truck solutions tailored for Indian logistics requirements.

Amazon also noted that it deployed over 100 electric trucks with multiple OEMs during 2025 across cities, including Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata as part of its wider transportation decarbonisation efforts.
