Amara Raja Infra, a subsidiary of the Amara Raja Group, has completed the establishment of India’s first green hydrogen fuelling station in Leh, Ladakh, for NTPC Ltd. This project aims to support emission-free transportation in the region and marks a step forward in advancing green mobility in India.

The hydrogen fuelling station, executed by Amara Raja Infra for NTPC, was inaugurated by Union Power Minister and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal. Following the completion of the project, NTPC will operate five hydrogen fuel cell buses in Leh and the surrounding areas.

The project involved designing, engineering, supplying, constructing, erecting, testing, and commissioning the hydrogen station. It also includes three years of operational and maintenance support for all systems on a turnkey basis.

According to Dwarakanadha Reddy, Business Head (Power EPC) at ARIPL, the completion of the project highlights the company’s capabilities in executing EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) projects and marks its entry into the green hydrogen infrastructure sector.

The station has a capacity to produce 80 kilograms of green hydrogen per day. The project was completed over two years under challenging conditions, including an altitude of 3,400 meters above sea level and temperatures ranging from -25°C to 30°C.

This initiative is expected to serve as a model for future green hydrogen mobility and storage projects in India, aligning with the objectives of the National Hydrogen Energy Mission. Additionally, the project will provide insights into the development and deployment of hydrogen fuelling stations across the country.
