Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Begins Production of Refreshed Taigun at Pune Plant

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) commenced production of the new Volkswagen Taigun at its Chakan facility in Pune on April 7, 2026, continuing the model's role as a key part of the group's India manufacturing and export strategy.

The updated Taigun carries revised exterior styling and new features developed in response to customer feedback. The company says the vehicle is engineered for Indian driving conditions while retaining Volkswagen's European dynamics, comfort standards, and 5-star safety credentials.

The Taigun first went on sale in India in 2021. Since then, 143,000 units have been produced at the Pune plant, approximately 30 percent of which have been exported to over 40 countries. SAVWIPL crossed the 2 million locally produced vehicles mark in 2025 and currently operates two plants with a combined annual capacity of 315,000 units.
