Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Expands R&D Footprint with new Pune Facility

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has inaugurated a new wing of its Technology Centre Pune (TCP) in Baner, expanding its research and development operations in India.

The new facility spans 33,000 sq. ft. and is designed to accommodate more than 250 engineers. It will focus on vehicle development, platform engineering, software, and mobility solutions. With this addition, the company’s engineering workforce across Pune increases to over 450 employees working on domestic and international projects.

The Baner unit complements the existing TCP facility at Chakan, which has been operational since 2019. The centre has contributed to the development of models such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Škoda Kushaq, and the sub-4-metre SUV Kylaq.

According to the company, the expansion is aimed at strengthening localisation, supporting exports, and integrating Indian engineering capabilities into the global R&D network of the Volkswagen Group.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, said the additional capacity will support development in areas such as digitalisation, automation, and safety technologies, while enabling faster execution and alignment with market requirements.

SAVWIPL oversees the Indian operations of brands including Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche. The company operates manufacturing plants in Chakan and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with a combined annual production capacity of 315,000 units.

The group reported cumulative exports of over 700,000 vehicles to more than 40 countries and crossed 2 million locally produced vehicles in India in 2025.
