Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced that its director for sales and marketing, Yadvinder Singh Guleria has stepped down though he will continue to serve the company until June 2022.

Guleria has been part of the Japanese two-wheeler company for over two decades since its inception in 1999 and has cited personal reasons for his decision to quit. Other than marketing and sales, he contributed to many critical functions, including customer service, logistics, brand & communication, along with HMSI’s new vertical of its premium motorcycle business, wherein it established its BigWing Topline and BigWing line-up of retail outlets.

A Bachelor of Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Guleria became the divisional head of sales, responsible for domestic sales and distribution in 2000 and served for 11 years before getting promoted as the senior vice president of sales and marketing in 2012.

He was elevated to the company’s Board of Directors in 2020. According to Atsushi Ogata, Managing Director, President and CEO, HMSI, “Yadvinder Singh Guleria has been a part of HMSI ever since its inception and has made invaluable contribution in expanding and accelerating our business while leading several critical functions in the company. He has cited personal reasons for his decision, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

Under Guleria's leadership, HMSI maintained leadership position in the country's scooter market. Honda Activa, continues to dominate the market for more than 20 years now. Launched in 2001, it revolutionised the scooter market with its gearless avatar and has until now sold well over 20,000,000 units in India. All in all, the Activa has sold over 2 crore or 20 million units over 20 years. Do the math and it works out to 2,740 Activas sold every single day for 7,300 days in India, including weekends!
