Volkswagen India has begun production of its premium luxury sedan, the Passat at its Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra.
The New Passat, which is based on the German carmaker’s MQB platform, will be launched in the domestic market later this year. The sedan will be available with a 2.0-litre TDI, 177 PS engine mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
Commenting on the start of production, Steffen Knapp, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India, said, “We are happy to bring back one of our most successful premium luxury products to the Indian market, the Passat. With the introduction of the Passat, we extend our portfolio, encompassing a wide variety of products from a hatchback to a luxury sedan.
