Updated Ertiga to debut with new K series engine

The Maruti Ertiga is all set to get a mid-cycle update that is slated to launch later this month. The carmaker has officially opened booking for the MPV and prospective customers can go to either the Arena dealerships or to the company's website to book the new Ertiga with a deposit of Rs 11,000.

Maruti has confirmed that the new Ertiga will come equipped with a new K-series 1.5-litre Dual VVT engine. It also said that the MPV will ditch the outdated 4-speed automatic gearbox it currently comes with, in favour of a new 6-speed automatic gearbox that will feature paddle-shifters. The new Ertiga will also be offered with a S-CNG version for the better-kitted ZXi trim.

In terms of equipment, the new MPV is also going to see an improvement over the current model. Maruti has confirmed that it will get a number of new features such as a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro touchscreen infotainment system with the ‘Suzuki Connect’ connected car tech.

On the design front, not a lot is expected to change with the new Ertiga. Maruti has shared the first teaser image for the MPV and the model has already been spied testing on our roads, and going by the images, the main change will be the new grille design that is similar to the one seen on the new Baleno.

Once launched, the new  Ertiga will face off against the likes of the Kia Carens, Mahindra Marazzo and even face some competition from the updated version of its plusher sibling – the XL6.

Maruti Suzuki plans to launch six new models by mid-2022. These include the new Ertiga and updated XL6 along with the Baleno CNG, new Vitara Brezza, and DualJet-equipped Ignis and S-Presso. The carmaker is also working on an all-new Creta-rivalling midsize SUV that is being co-developed with Toyota and is expected to launch later this year. The Jimny is expected to come to Maruti Suzuki showrooms sometime next year.

Maruti sold around 126,000 Ertigas in FY22.
