TVS Motor sells 144,817 two-wheelers in June, down 36% YoY

The company has resumed its operations in a graded manner across all its factories in Hosur, Mysore and Nalagarh.

TVS Motor sells 144,817 two-wheelers in June, down 36% YoY

Chennai-based TVS Motor Co has reported total sales of 144,817 two-wheelers in June 2020 as against 226,279 units in June 2019, down 36% year on year.

The company resumed manufacturing operations in India in a graded manner across all its factories in Hosur, Mysuru, and Nalagarh. In an official statement, TVS said: “The market is opening up gradually post the lockdown, and we are witnessing a positive uptake in both domestic retail as well as exports. The company faced supply chain constraints in June. However, the company has undertaken various countermeasures, some of which have started yielding results in June itself. The company is expecting to overcome these in the month of July.”

According to company data, the total two-wheelers registered during June stood at 191,076 units compared to 283,461 units in June 2019.  Domestic two-wheelers registered sales of 144,817 units in June 2020 as against 226,279 units in June 2019.

Segment-wise, motorcycles clocked sales of 84,401 units (June 2019: 131,331 units sold) and it sold 65,666 scooters in June 2020 (June 2019: 99,007 sooters sold). The company registered sales of 7,311 three-wheelers in June this year (June 2019: 13,641 units sold).

Exports in June
The company clocked exports  of 53,123 units in  June 2020 (June 2019 exports: 69,900 units).  Two-wheeler exports were at 46,259 units in June 2020 (June 2019 exports: 57,182 units).

First quarter sales performance
So overall for the first quarter, FY2021, total sales are at 255,000, significantly lower on a year on year basis(Q1FY2020: 884,000 units).  Q1 three-wheeler sales are also lower at 11,000 units (Q1FY2020:  39,000 units)
