TVS Motor launches BS VI Star City+ at Rs 62,034

TVS Motor has launched the BS VI-compliant Star City+ commuter bike at a starting price of Rs 62,034. The dual-tone colour option will set you back an additional Rs 500. TVS’ 110cc commuter has been on sale for a long time and has received a raft of changes along with the move to BS VI-compliance.

To begin with, the 109.7cc, air-cooled single-cylinder engine is fuel-injected, which results in crisper power delivery and better driveability, says TVS. The unit produces 8.08hp at 7,350rpm, which is about 0.32hp lower than the BS IV engine’s output. The torque figure, at 8.7Nm, remains the same. However, it's now produced at 4,500rpm instead of 5,000rpm.

The company also claims that the BS VI engine is smoother and more durable than before and that it offers better fuel economy – the brand claims a 15 percent increase over the BS4 machine. That’s interesting considering that the BS VI Star City + tips the scales at 116kg (kerb), which is about 7kg more than the outgoing BS IV motorcycle.

Besides updating the engine, TVS has also tweaked the appearance of the Star City+ by fitting a brand new LED headlamp and a bikini fairing. The new cowl looks sportier and more premium than the staid-looking face of the BS IV motorcycle, while the seat also gets a dual-tone colour. Although the rest of the body panels are the same, TVS has put added a set of new graphics to help differentiate it from the old bike. The new TVS Star City+ also gets a USB mobile charging port as standard.

Bookings for the new TVS Star City+ have begun across India.
