TVS Motor Company today announced its foray in the 125cc scooter segment with the launch of the NTorq 125. Targeted at young riders, the NTorq 125 is powered by what the company says is the state-of-the-art CVTi-REVV three-valve engine which achieves a top speed of 95kph, claimed to be the highest in the segment. The scooter also marks the launch of an exclusive technology platform – TVS SmartXonnect.

The NTorq is the production version of the Graphite concept showcased earlier at the Auto Expo. The company is targeting sales of 200,000 units in the first year of production.

At the launch in Chennai today,  Sudarshan Venu, joint managing director, TVS Motor Company, said, “TVS Motor Company has always placed utmost importance on developing products, which are aspirational for customers.  With the NTorq 125, we have aimed on building an attractive product for the youth which is innovative and advanced.  With exciting design and smart features, we are confident that the NTorq 125 will carve a niche in the scooter segment across the globe.”

It may be recollected that Autocar Professional had first revealed TVS' plans to enter the 125cc scooter segment in November 2016.

Commenting at the launch event, KN Radhakrishnan, president and CEO, TVS Motor Company, said, “Scooterisation in India, presented us with opportunities to create customer delight with targeted offerings across different customer segments. The TVS NTorq 125 is a one-of-its-kind offering, designed to meet the desires of the youthful customers.  It is a great addition to our scooter portfolio.”

The Ntorq has a wheelbase of 1,285mm and a kerb weight of 116.1kg. To go with its sporty intent, the scooter also features a telescopic fork and gas-filled shock absorber. For now, the Ntorq gets only a 220mm disc brake (with a 130mm drum at the rear), and it sports a 100/80x12 tyre at the front and a 110/80x12 tyre at the rear (tubeless at either end). The fuel tank, meanwhile, is a 5.0-litre unit.

Powering the Ntorq is a new CVTi-REVV 124.8cc motor with a 3-valve head which produces 9.5hp and 10.5Nm of torque, making it the most powerful scooter to be offered by TVS yet. The Ntorq 125 has been priced at Rs 58,750 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is impressive for a scooter this tech-loaded and performance-oriented. The Ntorq 125 will primarily compete with the Honda Grazia and the upcoming Aprilia SR125.
