Four two-wheeler manufacturers including TVS Motor, India Yamaha Motor, Bajaj Auto and Eicher Motors are to hold free vehicle service camps for the next 10 days to repair vehicles damaged by floods and heavy rain in Chennai. This decision has come after chief minister Jayalalithaa requested the companies to help two-wheeler owners by providing repair service.

In an official statement, the CM said, “I have requested TVS Motor Company, India Yamaha Motor, Bajaj Auto and Eicher Motors to provide free service and based upon that, the companies have decided to conduct camps.” Details regarding the service camps would be made public on government’s website.

Due to heavy rains and floods in Tamil Nadu, a large number of two-wheelers and autorickshaws have been damaged in Chennai and neighbouring districts like Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Cuddalore.

Meanwhile media reports suggest that nearly 10,000-12,000 cars have been damaged during last week’s floods in Chennai. Manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Honda Cars India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Nissan India and Volkswagen India are gearing up to handle a flow of flood-affected vehicles.

To help car owners, manufacturers are making available parts and even offering waivers on charges. Insurance companies are also helping by simplifying the insurance claim process. OEMs are also facing challenges as some service centres have also been affected by the floods and will take some time to commence operations.
