Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has finally announced prices for its Vellfire luxury MPV. To be sold as a single fully-loaded variant, Toyota Vellfire prices start at Rs 79.50 lakh (ex-showroom, across India except Kerala) for an introductory period.

The Japanese carmaker claims that the first three shipments of the Vellfire for India have already been booked. Toyota also says that customers in Hyderabad account for 20 percent of the total 180 bookings made. Sixty units of the Vellfire a month is Toyota's allocation for India.

Speaking at the launch in Hyderabad on February 26, Vikram Kirloskar, vice-chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said: “The automotive industry in India is undergoing a profound technology-driven transformation with innovation and creativity defining the overall customer experience. As industry leaders, it is imperative for us to challenge ourselves and provide customers with new breakthroughs that not only promises magnificence and comfort, but also contributes to the well-being of the ecosystem.  At Toyota, environment consciousness is etched into our ecosystem, from fuel efficient vehicles to developing ever better eco techniques and  approaches, TKM has environmentally sustainable solutions at the heart of all our business operations and every single vehicle that is manufactured in the plant. Along the lines, our latest offering New Toyota Vellfire too embodies our commitment of offering-ever-better cars with ever-better technology for an ever-better environment”.

Masakazu Yoshimura, managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “Today marks an important day in our Journey in India, as we add another milestone product to our lineup of electrified vehicles. The New Vellfire truly encapsulates Toyota’s class defining technology, comfort, elegance and sustainability that ultimately offers an excellent driving experience for the customers. Globally, we have a caravan of luxury offerings, and the launch of Toyota Vellfire in India marks a significant moment in our journey. The Vellfire is an icon of ultimate luxury whilst envisaging a greener future. Today’s announcement is a significant step in our mid-to-long-term plan to achieve zero CO2 challenge. We will continue to work for mass electrification thus moving towards the goal of sustainable mobility”

The Vellfire is Toyota’s flagship MPV sold globally and comes with a long list of creature comforts. The MPV is on the larger side too – it is 4,935mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,895mm high, but the highlight is the huge 3,000mm wheelbase.  Power comes from a 117hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine coupled with two electric motors. As the two motors – 143hp front and 68hp rear – are mounted on each axle, it acts as a four-wheel-drive system. The setup has an ARAI-rated 16.35kpl fuel efficiency figure.

The three-row Vellfire MPV’s key focus is on the middle-row, which comes with two large chairs replete with an armrest-mounted console that allows for multiple seating configurations. The heated and cooled seats also feature a (very) reclinable backrest, along with an adjust for the legrest angle and length, which means that the middle-row seats can also be converted to a near-flat bed at a touch of a button.

The MPV also gets a 13-inch rear entertainment screen that’s mounted on the roof, a 17-speaker JBL sound system, sunblinds for second and third rows, 16 colour options for the roof lighting, and three-zone auto climate control. Fold-out tables and cupholders also help convert the Vellfire into an office on the move.

While bookings have been open for quite a few months, deliveries for the Toyota Vellfire are expected to begin in the coming days.
