Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has reported domestic sales of 11,511 units in May 2015 as compared to 11,831 units in May 2014 (-2.70%). Overall, last month, including exports of 1,448 units of the Etios series, it sold 12,965 units compared to 13,228 units in May 2014.

TKM says there was limited production last month due to a planned annual plant shutdown from May 29 to June 6 for regular maintenance. The impact will thus be felt in the June’s production as well.

The all-new Camry launched on April 30, sold 107 units in May 2015, registering a growth of 51% when compared to the same period last year. Since launch, TKM has received 251 customer orders since launch which is 35% of the total Camry sales last year.

N Raja, director and senior vice-president (Sales and Marketing) said, “The newly launched Camry has shown great success and acceptance by customers this month. The Camry Hybrid constitutes 91% of the total Camry sales in May. The hybrid market though still at a nascent stage is beginning to gain popularity among Indian customers. We would like to thank the customers for their response and also the government for the introduction of incentives under FAME. Camry is the first locally produced hybrid vehicle and as committed, the incentive of Rs 70,000 has been passed on to the customer.

We sold 11,511 units in the domestic market this month. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers due to limited production on account of the planned shutdown.”
