The Toyota Glanza hatchback has gone on sale in India. While the model has been in the news as the first product to result from Toyota and Suzuki’s partnership, its pricing, which was revealed yesterday, has also brought forth another point of distinction for the model. The Toyota Glanza is officially the most affordable mild-hybrid car you can buy in India.

The Glanza G, which is powered by Suzuki’s 1.2-litre K12N engine with Smart Hybrid technology, has been priced at Rs 722,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price, the sole hybrid version of the Glanza undercuts the Baleno DualJet Smart Hybrid in Delta trim – formerly the most affordable hybrid car in India – by all of Rs 3,000.

While the aforementioned difference in price might seem unsubstantial, it is worth noting that the Toyota Glanza G matches the higher-spec Baleno DualJet Smart Hybrid Zeta (Rs 7.87 lakh) on features. Spec-to-spec, then, the Glanza works out to Rs 65,000 cheaper than the equivalent Baleno hybrid. The Glanza G and Baleno DualJet Smart Hybrid Zeta get LED headlights, alloy wheels, keyless go, auto-dimming mirrors and 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment systems with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The Glanza does go one up on the Baleno, with its more extensive 3-year/1,00,000km warranty; the Baleno comes with a 2-year/40,000km warranty as standard.

The 90hp K12N engine on the Glanza hybrid made its debut in the Baleno only recently. The motor features dual injectors in every cylinder and also comes mated to an integrated starter motor that provides mild assist under acceleration. Like the Baleno Smart Hybrid, the Glanza hybrid is solely available with a manual gearbox and delivers an ARAI-tested fuel economy of 23.87kpl. For reference, the higher-spec Glanza V trim uses Suzuki’s 83hp, K12B engine that’s rated with 21.01kpl in manual guise and 19.56kpl with the CVT automatic.

Given that Toyota Kirloskar Motor doesn’t sell the Glanza with a diesel engine, the hybrid’s economy and relatively keen pricing could be a draw for car buyers who clock a fair amount of mileage.

Here’s a look at the variant-wise price breakup for the Toyota Glanza

Glanza pricing (ex-showroom Delhi)
Glanza G MT: Rs 722,000
Glanza G CVT: Rs 830,000
Glanza V MT: Rs 758,000
Glanza V CVT: Rs 890,000
