Toyota brings Hilux to Indian market

The Hilux is based on the IMV-2 platform which has been used in the current generation Fortuner and Innova.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor unveiled its pick-up truck, Hilux in India today. While the bookings for the new pick-up truck are open, prices will be revealed in March when the deliveries begin.

Hilux will become a direct rival in the segment to Isuzu V-Cross. The company has been selling the brand in the global market for a long time now and has decided to bring this to India now. The Hilux is based on the IMV-2 platform which has been used in the current generation Fortuner and Innova.

The new pick-up truck has a 2.8 litre four-cylinder diesel engine which produces 201 bhp and 420 Nm of torque with the manual gearbox. The automatic version takes this up to 500 Nm of torque. Hilux also gets two drive modes Eco and Power. It has an 18-inch alloy wheel with LED projector headlamps and tail lamps. It also comes with front parking sensors. The vehicle can carry a payload of 435 kg.

In terms of safety, it has a 5-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP and gets seven airbags as standard. It also comes with ABS with EBD, brake assist, ISOFIX child seat etc. On the inside, the Hilux has an all-black leather interior, dual-zone climate control, 8.0-inch infotainment system with Android and Apple CarPlay. For off-roading, the new truck gets electronic differential locks and a tyre angle monitor. Other features like downhill assist and traction control have also been included.
