With orders for 10 city buses, the Thane Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra joins 15 other Indian cities that have inducted the Volvo 8400 city bus into their fleets.

According to Volvo Buses, orders have also been received from the Mira-Bhayandar municipal Corporation, the  Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation and the Assam State Transport Corporation for its city bus. Besides these, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has placed a repeat order for the 8400.

In August, Volvo Buses supplied the first lot of 8400 buses to the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport. While 18 units were delivered to the APSRTC, 30 units were delivered to NMMT as part of the fleet augmentation process.

These deliveries follow that of orders from Pondicherry and Solapur in June.

So far, the company has delivered close to 1300 buses to various cities in the country. Volvo Buses recently crossed a key milestone of 5,000 buses in India that include buses for the export market.

The Volvo 8400 city bus has been built to meet the current Urban Bus Specifications and has a host of new features in passenger convenience and comfort. These buses are assembled at the company’s plant on the outskirts of Bangalore.
