Tata Motors sells 23,545 units in December, up 84%, best Q3 for EVs

Tata Motors is on a roll on the passenger vehicle front. The carmaker has announced sales of 23,545 unis in December 2020, up 84% year on year (December 2019: 12,785). For the third quarter of FY2021 (October-December 2020), the sales tally is 68,803, which constitutes 89% YoY growth (October-December 2019: 36,354).

Commenting on the sales numbers, Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said: “The PV industry continued to grow robustly in Q3 FY21, owing to pent-up demand, strong festive season and shift towards personal mobility. Tata Motors’ PV business has been witnessing strong response for its ‘New Forever’ range, which is being supported by continuous ramp up of supplies."

"In Q3 FY2021, the PV business posted a growth of 89% as compared to Q3 FY2020, the highest ever sales in the last 33 quarters. For December 2020, wholesales were higher by 84%. Retail sales were 18% higher than wholesales for the month and pipeline inventory remains thin. We are continuing to debottleneck the supply chain and ramp up our output to meet the increased demand while addressing the availability of electronic components. With the growing popularity of Nexon EV, the company also posted an impressive sale in EVs with highest ever quarter wholesales of 1,253 units in Q3 FY2021 and 418 units in December 2020," added Chandra, who was recently voted Autocar Professional's Man of the Year 2020

In a span of less than eight months, that too during the pandemic, the new President of Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicle Business has worked relentlessly to bring the mojo back into the system. Sales are soaring and there is tremendous confidence among employees, vendors and dealers as customers make a beeline for Tata cars.

Tata Motors will be continuing the momentum in January, what with the launch of the premium Altroz turbo-petrol on January 13, followed by the unveiling of the prodcution-spec new flagship SUV, the Tata Gravitas
