Tata Motors’ March sales at 51,184 units, down 33 percent

In the passenger vehicle segment, the company sold 12,640 units (March 2013: 12,347), a 2.37 percent increase. Sales of the Nano/ Indica/ Indigo range accounted for 9,761 units while the Sumo/ Safari/ Aria/ Venture range sales were 2,879 units.
Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles for 2013-14 were 138,455 units as against 222,112 units in the year-earlier period, down 37 percent. Cumulative sales of the Nano/ Indica and Vista / Indigo and Manza range were 107,187 units as against 174,692 units in 2012-13. Cumulative sales of the Sumo/Safari/ Aria/ Venture range were 31,268 units as compared to 47,420 units in 2012-13.
Sales of CVs in March 2014 in the domestic market were 33,356 units as against 56,813 units in the year-earlier period. The break-up for LCV and M&HCVs was 20,938 units and 12,418 units as against 41,961 units and 14,852 units respectively.
Cumulative CV sales in the domestic market for 2013-14 were 378,348 units as against 537,143 units in 2012-13, a drop of 30 percent. Total LCV sales were 268,117 units as compared to 393,762 units, while M&HCV sales stood at 110,231 units as against 143,381 units in the previous fiscal year.
Highlights of the fiscal year gone by were the launch of eight new variants under the Horizonext strategy, the launch of a CNG Nano as well as one powered by power steering. The company also launched its Zest and Bolt brands at the Auto Expo. These cars that include a new petrol engine under the hood will be launched in a few months. In the CV segment, the recent launch of 10 new trucks under the Prima LX range was a key milestone.
