Tata Motors has commenced deliveries of its new AC buses, with automatic transmission, for the newly constructed Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) operations in Amritsar.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, flagged-off four new Tata Motors automatic transmission buses, for the BRTS in Amritsar.

The fully air-conditioned buses are equipped with doors designed for the Amritsar’s BRTS, for ease of passenger entry and exit. The buses have a capacity to handle a total of 80-100 passengers, at any given time.

Part of a larger order of 93 buses, the new buses are equipped with new-generation Tata Cummins ISBe engines, air suspension and multiplex wiring meeting UBS II (Urban Bus specification) as specified by the Indian government. The buses also have higher acceleration cutting down on travel time, thus making these buses travel faster. The shorter wheel base of these buses also improves the turning radius in the city.

The new Tata Motors buses are also equipped with on-bus ITS (Intelligent Transport System), for public information systems, a security network system, vehicle health monitoring and diagnostics. Further, GPRS-enabled connectivity permits the bus to be connected to the control room for live vehicle monitoring.

Tata Motors also operates similar BRTS automatic transmission, air-conditioned buses in Ahmedabad and Raipur.
