Tata Motors has now emerged as the number three carmaker in India for FY2022, clocking 67 percent growth in sales for the entire fiscal at 370,372 vehicles compared to FY2021 sales of 222,025 vehicles. Domestic PV sales in March is up 43 percent at 42,293 vehicles compared to sale of 29,654 cars in March 2021. The performance has even bettered Autocar Professional estimates for FY2022.
The March sales include 3357 EVs and 38,936 ICE passenger vehicles. The EV sales for Tata Motors have seen a three-fold growth year-on-year compared to 705 units sold last March. For the overall financial year FY2022 too, the share of ICE vehicles is at 351,266 cars compared to 217,809 vehicles sold in FY2021. EV sales continued to witness a rapid growth in demand on the back of demand for Nexon EV and Tigor EV. The share of EVs too increased in FY2022 at 19,106 vehicles compared to 4,216 sold in FY2021.
Speaking on the passenger car sales trend, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said, “Tata Motors set several new records in a challenging year, disrupted by two waves of Covid, semiconductor crisis and steep increase in commodity prices. We posted the highest ever annual, quarterly and monthly sales, supported by a strong demand for our New Forever range and agile actions taken on the supply side.”
The auto major also ended the financial year with the highest ever SUV sales of 29,559 units. Chandra added a note of caution about the new financial year and highlighted the challenges ahead, “Going forward, semiconductor situation remains uncertain. We will continue to monitor the evolving situation closely and are refining our agile, multi-pronged approach to continue to fulfil customer orders.”
