Sona Comstar produces its 350 millionth gear, last 100 million in only 3 years

While the 150th millionth gear took 16 years, the next 100 million units took five years; the last 100 million gears have rolled out in just three years reflecting the strong demand for the company’s differential gears.

Sona Comstar produces its 350 millionth gear, last 100 million in only 3 years

Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar) has achieved the production milestone of 350 million gears since its inception 24 years ago. 

The company began manufacturing precision forged differential gears at its plant in Gurgaon, Haryana, in 1999 and in Pune, Maharashtra, in 2005. Today, from its plants in India, Sona Comstar caters to seven of the world's Top 10 passenger vehicle OEMs, three of the world's Top 10 commercial vehicle OEMs, seven of the world's Top-10 tractor makers, five of the world's Top-15 EV OEMs and four of the top-15 Indian electric two-wheeler OEMs.

The company crossed the production milestone of 150-million gears in 2015 and achieved the 250 million-mark in 2020. The next 100 million gears production milestone was achieved in three years, reflecting the company's strong growth.

As per Ricardo’s estimates, Sona Comstar's global market share of differential gears increased to 7.2% in 2022 from 5.0% in 2020. The company continues to dominate the Indian market for differential gears with a 60‑90% market share across vehicle categories.
