Sona Comstar, IIT Delhi launch Innovation program to drive safe and green mobility

Gurgaon-based Sona Comstar, the automotive supplier of bevel gears and differential assemblies with 90 percent market share in the domestic CV segment, and IIT-Delhi have come together to launch an incubation program for start-ups working in the field of safe and clean mobility.

Under the partnership the Tier 1 and IIT-Delhi’s Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) that, inter alia, manages technology business incubators and enables innovations and technology commercialisation will enable a unique incubation/acceleration program in the domain of safe, clean and eco-friendly mobility.

The Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi works closely with industry. It engages with them on various fronts, including collaborative R&D with the institute, sponsored research, and supporting start-ups through industry partnerships and their CSR initiatives.

IIT Delhi states the partnership (with Sona Comstar) was forged to foster innovations in the area of safe, clean, and eco-friendly mobility, which is the need of the hour given the challenges we face due to lack of sustainable transport solutions and growing pollution, especially in the urban centers. The program envisages supporting breakthrough ideas in these domains instead of incremental solutions. Collectively the experience of both organisations will help mentor the start-ups towards bringing in innovative solutions.

The innovation program is open to Indian startup companies working in EV technologies, vehicle safety solutions, other efficient mobility and connectivity solutions. The call for applications is open from August 15, 2020 to September 15, 2020. The initiative will support two startups shall each year with up to Rs 80 lakh each to complete proof of concept and develop prototypes. The technical expertise of IIT Delhi along with a strong mentor network for business guidance shall be available for the startups to develop and deploy their solutions.
