Pune-based Sintercom India has announced successful development of cam-to-cam scissor gear through the sintering process for a leading automaker. The company has also commissioned the gear rolling line. With this, Sintercom says it has become the first sintered components manufacturer in India to do so.

Following BS VI norms which have enhanced emission reduction, the scissor gears facilitate upgraded noise level (NVH) through reduction of backlash. These gears adapt the densification process on teeth flanks to gain improved mechanical properties. P/M gear rolling densification is a post-sintering process in which the porosity is closed at the surface and at some depth into the flank of the gear, which results in improving the dimensional control and also the mechanical properties.

With this technology being developed in India, the company expects a surge in new business for development and conversion of various gears.

Commenting on the milestone, Jignesh Raval, MD and CEO of Sintercom India, said, “We are proud to be India’s first sintered player to develop cam-to-cam scissor gear. Since there is an increasing demand in India for emission reduction and noise level reduction products, we are certain that these gears will bring new prospects for various developments in the sector.”

Sintercom says users often choose P/M for manufacturing gears because of the following advantages:

- As the material is porous, it contributes to quiet running gears (porosity dampens sound) and allows them to be self-lubricated (by impregnating with oil).
- Total input weight reduction against forging process.
- Improvement in NVH level.
- Dimensional stability
- Process and productivity lead-time improvement

Set up in 2007, Sintercom India specialises in manufacturing medium to high-density sintered components for automotive engine, powertrain and exhaust systems. The company also manufactures sensor components that cater to global markets. The product portfolio includes drivetrain gears, engine sprockets, pulleys, crankshaft bearing journals, transmission gears and synchro hubs, as well as ABS rings and Sensor Hego bosses and flanges.
