Scania Commercial Vehicles India has displayed ethanol engines for the first time in India at the Busworld 2015 Exposition, which opened in Mumbai today. The company also showcased its premium range of Metrolink 13.7 metre coach and ethanol-powered Green Bus.

Earlier today, the manufacturer also delivered its premium Metrolink coaches to Kaushik Logistics, Hebron Transports and Transit Logistics. Kaushik Global Logistics will ply, service and manage the buses for UPSRTC, paving the way for Scania’s entry into north India.

Speaking on the occasion, Anders Grundströmer, managing director, Scania India, and senior vice-president, said: “We are displaying our ethanol engine for the first time in India and showcasing India’s first ethanol-powered Green Bus and the market leading premium intercity bus – the Metrolink 13.7 m coach. Keeping in mind India’s need for a sustainable transport system, we will bring more products that run on alternative fuel and help drive the Swach Bharat campaign and the concept of smart cities.”

“The launch of our Green Bus last year created an interest among various transport ministries, general public and stakeholders. Our sustainable transport solutions will promote empowerment of local farmers, create job opportunities, contribute to the GDP and conserve environment by cutting carbon emissions and using waste for extracting bio-fuels.”

Scania had received orders for 14 buses from Hebron Transports, eight buses from Transit Logistics and 20 from Kaushik Global Logistics (KGL). With the delivery of buses to Transit Logistics, Scania completes its entry into the state of Telangana as well.

Commenting on the bus handover, Grundströmer said: “The delivery of Metrolink Coaches has helped us accomplish four things: We have a presence in north India; we have an association with UPSRTC; we have entered the state of Telangana and finally our expansion in the southern market continues. Scania Metrolink is designed to withstand Indian conditions and comes with progressive safety elements, refined suspension for comfort and has appealing luxury features. Our products help the fleet operators in achieving most competitive Total Operating Economy giving them an edge over other vehicles in terms of maintenance, operating cost and overall revenue generation. With our recently inaugurated bus plant in Narsapura, we will localise our products and ensure our contribution towards the Make in India initiative.”

The Scania Metrolink comes with a refined suspension and braking systems for safety and comfort. The Metrolink buses are packed with uncompromised safety features such as Fleet Management System (FMS), speed limit compliant to state regulations, six emergency exits with twelve hammers, emergency doors, fully fire retardant bus body, and blended retarder: technology that keeps the service brakes cold for full emergency performance. Scania says Metrolink also complies with R66 Standard, the best possible safety standard, even for vehicle rollover and accident, tested and certified by TUV, Germany.
