Castrol India has announced the appointment of Sandeep Sangwan as its new managing director with effect from January 1, 2020. Sangwan will succeed Omer Dormen, who will move into another role to lead Castrol’s business in Europe from January 2020, after a successful tenure of four years in India.

Sangwan, with a career extending over 29 years, has extensive business, sales and marketing expertise. At present, Castrol says Sangwan is based in the UK as the programme director and leading a major transformation programme in BP Lubricants and has been instrumental in embedding the new lubricants operating model across the business. He had joined BP in 2012 as a part of the Castrol innoVentures team and subsequently worked in Europe and Africa as the Regional Marketing Director and as the North Europe Sales Director.

Commenting on the announcement, R Gopalakrishnan, chairperson, Castrol India Board said, “Omer Dormen has been instrumental in changing the trajectory of the Castrol India business over the last four years and leading the company in making noteworthy progress against key parameters of business performance, resulting in profitable volume growth. Our best wishes are with him as he takes on his next assignment with Castrol, heading the business in Europe. On behalf of the Board, I warmly welcome Sandeep Sangwan to the Castrol India team.”

Omer Dormen commented, “It has been a huge honour to serve Castrol India alongside so many great people, internally and externally, who have generously supported me in successfully delivering the strategic business priorities and setting new industry benchmarks, while upholding our core values. I am confident that Sandeep will continue to drive Castrol India’s growth agenda and lead the business to greater heights in this advanced mobility era.”

Sandeep Sangwan added, “I am hugely excited by the opportunity to lead Castrol, an iconic brand in India, backed by exceptional people with extraordinary intent and an excellence mindset. I eagerly look forward to work with the Castrol India team to shape a relevant and responsible future, keeping the customer at the heart of all that we do.”

Both Sangwan and Dormen will work closely over the next few months to facilitate a smooth transition.
