Saint-Gobain to invest Rs 1,000 crore in glass business in Tamil Nadu

This takes the cumulative investment in Sriperumbudur to over Rs 3,000 crores, adding significant manufacturing capacity and capabilities to the World Glass Complex.

In line with the Make in India mantra, Saint-Gobain has dedicated Rs 1,000 crores over the next two years towards its glass manufacturing facilities in South India in the World Glass complex at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.

This takes the cumulative investment in Sriperumbudur to over Rs 3,000 crores, adding significant manufacturing capacity and capabilities to the World Glass Complex.

Two entities, Grindwell Norton Limited and Saint-Gobain India house Saint-Gobain’s businesses in India, which include automotive and solar applications among others. The World Glass complex also features automotive processing lines for 1.2 million car sets. The complex caters not just to the Indian sub-continent, but also to Africa, Middle-East and ASEAN markets.

The investment will include a new floatglass plant, the third on the site which will be the largest in India and the region, and will be equipped to manufacture a wide range of complex products that cater to various needs. It will be an automated, energy efficient, scalable and flexible, state-of-the-art integrated glass facility. The investment will further put into a new magnetron coater plant to manufacture 144 million sq ft of glass catering to Africa, Middle-East, ASEAN and Oceania regions.
