Royal Enfield has launched the BS VI-compliant Classic 350 thumper. Priced at Rs 165,025 (ex-showroom), the BS VI Classic 350 with dual-channel ABS costs about Rs 11,000 more than the outgoing BS IV version that also came with dual-channel ABS.

While the Classic 350 dual channel ABS is the the first motorcycle from Royal Enfield to transition to the new regulatory emission norms, other motorcycles in the portfolio will be BS VI compliant by March 31, 2020.

Along with the upgrades to the engine – in the form of a fuel-injection system that replaces the carburettor on the BS IV model – to make it comply with the upcoming BS VI emission norms, the updated Classic 350 also gets two new colour options: Stealth Black and Chrome Black. The previously offered Signals Airborne Blue, Signals Stormrider Sand, Gunmetal Grey and Classic Black paint options will continue to be available. Bikes painted Stealth Black or Gunmetal Grey will come with alloy wheels and tubeless tyres as standard.

The BS IV Classic 350’s 346cc, single-cylinder air-cooled engine was tuned to produce 19.8hp and 28Nm of torque. While Royal Enfield has not yet revealed the output figures for the BS VI model, it has said the Electronic Fuel Injection system will help improve refinement, rideability and the ability to consistently start in the cold. The brand also claims power and torque delivery are tuned and optimised to deliver better performance.

The bike maker has also taken this opportunity to roll out a new aftersales service initiative for all its BS VI models – the package includes a three-year warranty and three years of roadside assistance.

Commenting on the new BS VI compliant motorcycle, Vinod Dasari, CEO, Royal  Enfield, said: "Royal  Enfield  believes  that  sustainable growth comes from thinking ahead and deploying long-term strategies. The directive by the government to adhere to the BS VI emission norms is a welcome move as it is one of the first steps towards transitioning to the future of mobility. This not just ensures cleaner technology and sustainable mobility but also puts the Indian automotive sector ahead of its global counterparts. We have ensured BS VI compliance as mandated well ahead of time in the current portfolio to ensure a seamless experience for our existing and potential customers.”
