Renault India is set to introduce a more powerful 1.0-litre variant of its bestselling model, the Kwid. The Kwid 1.0 will be launched on August 22, 2016.

Currently powered by an 800cc engine, the carmaker had many asking for a more powerful version. First showcased at the Auto Expo 2016, the Kwid 1.0 comes with a 999cc 67hp petrol motor mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The new Kwid will feature driver airbag (optional), touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, USB, Bluetooth audio streaming and aux-in, two front speakers, 12V power socket, remote keyless entry with central locking, front power windows, dual-tone dashboard, foldable backrest, rear parcel tray, front fog lamps, passenger side ORVMs and body-colour bumpers.

While the 800cc engine model delivers a mileage of 25.17 kpl, the 1.0-litre engine will return 23.01 kpl, as claimed by the carmaker.

Initially, the Kwid 1.0-litre will be available only with a manual gearbox. The AMT-gearbox-equipped version is likely to join at a later stage. The car will rival the likes of the Alto K10 and the Eon 1.0.

Bookings for Kwid 1.0 have already started with dealers promising deliveries of the car by October.
