The finance minister’s recent announcement of extending the excise duty cuts on vehicles may not have been enough to stop vehicle price hikes. Autocar Professional had reported on June 25 that there are other factors that could still lead to a price increase.

Renault India has made the first move among OEMs by increasing prices on its locally produced range – the Scala sedan, Pulse hatchback and Duster SUV – by 1 percent from July 1, 2014. The carmaker has cited rising input costs as the main reason.
