Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions (RBEI), the engineering and IT business solution arm of Robert Bosch, has developed ‘Active Sound Cancellation and Enhancement’ technology aimed at reducing unwanted noise while increasing the required sound in vehicles.

The Bangalore-based RBEI has been developing a number of advanced products for automotive as well as other industries. Bosch had recently showcased its most innovative products developed over the past year in Bangalore.

According to RBEI, Active Sound Cancellation technology is adopted to reduce unwanted sound by introducing a second sound which is specifically designed to cancel the first. This technology, which is used in headphones, also has other applications like reducing the noise inside the cabin of a car, reducing decibel levels in construction equipment and also in generators.

Using advanced software algorithms, RBEI has changed the sound experience in vehicles to a comfort level.

The company says it is working with this technology solution for passenger cars, off-highway vehicles and generators. The system includes a control unit which runs the cancellation algorithm and a set of speakers to generate anti-noise to reduce the total resultant noise.

Active Sound Enhancement can also be achieved through this solution. It is a method by which the speed-dependent engine sound is generated to make a motorcycle sound sportier. The technology is similar to cancellation and noise is generated to enhance the required frequencies. The product has potential in the Indian market as a growing number of motorcycle enthusiasts are constantly modifying their bikes to be sportier and faster.
