Rapido bike taxi announces new discounts for UP city users

Rapido, a Bangalore based company who provides technology-based services for booking two-wheelers through a mobile application has announced new discounts for its users in the cities of Uttar Pradesh including, Bareilly, Meerut, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Agra and Kanpur. Rapido claims that the discounts could be claimed through the app in these select cities of UP.

Rapido wants to tackle the issues that commuters face due to heavy traffic conditions, especially during the morning rush hours by replacing the conventional four-wheeler taxis with bikes. It offers commuters the alternative option of a bike instead of a car or public transport to navigate through traffic snarls quickly and reach your destination on time.

Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar flagged off Rapido Bikes at Bareilly on 22nd of September and also distributed helmets to the Rapido service providers, called ‘Captains’. The Rapido app can be easily downloaded from the play store in an Android or IOS phone. A ride can be booked on the app by entering the pick-up and drop locations. A Rapido ‘Captain’ will come and pick the user up from the location and drop the user off at the desired destination.

Rapido bikes started its operation in the year 2015 and in 4 years they claim to have around 500,000 captains across the country, including women. They claim to have clocked more than 30 million rides over the bike-taxi booking app.

Ensuring safe operations, Rapido has a dual helmet policy where the helmets are provided to both – Captain and the passenger. The app comes with GPS, live tracking, SOS and live chat facilities. The app also has an option for the users to share their ride with their trusted contacts. Rapido confirms that ‘Captains’ will get free insurance worth Rs. 500,000. Rapido offers its Captains a part of the cost of the ride, along with many other benefits. Currently, many Rapido Captains in India claim to earn up to Rs. 25,000 a month.

Rapido is currently planning to expand in cities like Jhansi, Mathura, Muzaffarnagar, Faizabad and Firozabad.
