Aprilia has launched the updated SR 125 and SR 160 at Rs 108,000 and Rs 117,000 respectively. The SR 160 Carbon is priced at Rs 120,000, while the SR 160 Race costs Rs 127,000 (all prices ex-showroom, Pune). Both these versions differ from the standard scooter in colours and graphics schemes.

For all its positives, the Aprilia SR scooters felt like quite dated even early on in their life cycle. With halogen headlights and analogue instrumentation, they didn’t cut very modern figures. Now, Aprilia has rectified that with the launch of this facelift.

The facelifted Aprilia SRs sport a new, sharper design, and look more modern thanks, in part, to a new V-shaped LED headlight and new LED tail-lamp. The apron and grab rails have been redesigned, it gains knuckle guards, and the seats also now sport a split design, which is quite unusual for a scooter. The earlier MRF tyres have now been replaced by CEAT units.

Instrumentation is now fully digital with the SR borrowing the SXR 160’s LCD screen. This means a large and crisp display, with readouts for trip, speed and fuel consumption data, as well as a tachometer, which is also quite unusual for a scooter. Like on the SXR, this display is yet to receive Bluetooth connectivity.

Diego Graffi, chairman and MD, Piaggio India said, “It gives me immense pleasure to announce the launch of the new Aprilia SR 160 range. Evolution of brand Aprilia is very interesting in India, SR as an innovative design with big wheels in scooters has already created a segments of Aprilia experience seekers, SR has been a benchmark scooter and first to offer the great engineering tech like ABS (Antilock braking system), 160 CC 3V Tech FI, high-tech, high-performance engine, its new design evolution will make riders rejoice the brand experience ever more”

Sudhanshu Agrawal, head – 2-Wheeler Business, Piaggio India said, “The all-new SR 160 is set to take the market by a storm. New SR is an exciting representation of latest Aprilia brand look, it’s going to enhance its prominence on the road with new imposing stance and with best technology incorporated, representing the true Aprilia spirit and will be elevating the experience to its fans”, it’s available across all the Aprilia dealerships in India and on Aprilia online shop.”

At these new prices, the SR 125 is around Rs 13,000 more expensive than the base version of the outgoing SR 125, and Rs 10,000 more expensive than the digital cluster variant. The SR 160 is about Rs 12,000 more expensive than before. It’s main competition now comes from the recently launched Yamaha Aerox 155, which is priced at Rs 129,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
