Piaggio gets ARAI's BS 6 certification for its 3-wheeler diesel range

Piaggio Vehicles, a subsidiary of the Italian Piaggio Group and a leading manufacturer of small commercial vehicles, has received the country's first ARAI BS 6 compliance certification for its diesel-powered range of three-wheelers.

Commenting on the development, Diego Graffi, CEO and MD, Piaggio Vehicles said: “Piaggio has consistently led the industry in technology and innovation. The successful completion of the compliance test and certification much ahead of the official implementation date of April 1, 2020 further strengthens the company’s position as a technology leader”.

Saju Nair, EVP and Head of CV Business, Piaggio Vehicles said: “We are delighted to be the first three-wheeler manufacturer in India to receive BS 6 Certification for our diesel product range. This certification much ahead of the deadline will help us have a smooth transition from BS IV to BS 6 through better channel stock management. We are also sure that our customers will benefit from this technology and the enhanced performance parameters of these vehicles."

After receiving the certification from ARAI director Rashmi Hemant Urdhwareshe, Anand Bhangaonkar, EVP and Head R&D Piaggio Vehicles said: “It is a proud moment to receive India’s first BS 6 compliance of a small single cylinder diesel engine and its applications for CV. We thank the ARAI team for their continuous support to us for achieving this benchmark in record time. We look forward to similar support from them for our upcoming product range. In addition to the certification of diesel range we are happy to also receive the BS 6 certification for our Ape’ City LPG vehicle.”
