Piaggio aims to ride demand for premium scooters with new Aprilia SXR 125

Piaggio Vehicles, which is on a dealership expansion spree having opened all of 100 dealerships in 100 days, is bullish on demand growing for its 125cc scooters. The company has launched the a new 2021 Aprilia SXR 125, thereby expanding its 125cc scooter portfolio to three products including the Aprilia SR 125 and the Vespa LX 125. The SR 125 sold 11,997 units in FY2021, down 14% year on year, albeit sales in most of FY2021 were impacted by the pandemic.

The new SXR 125, which is based on the SXR 160 which went on sale in December 2020, is priced at Rs 114,994 (ex-showroom, Pune). The common engine platform ensures that the new scooter is powered by the same three-valve, single-cylinder, air-coooled engine, which develops 9.5hp and 9.2 Nm torque, as on the SR 125.  There are few other changes to the new sibling, the styling remaining the same save for the LED headlights, reminiscent of the Aprilia RS 660 supersport speedster.

Equipped with a large 210 cm sq. multifunctional all digital cluster display, the SXR 125 has a host of features such as digital speed indicator, RPM meter, mileage indicator, average speed & top speed display, digital fuel indicator etc. Customers can also opt for the Bluetooth mobile connectivity accessory which connects the user’s mobile to the scooter to explore host of connectivity features.

What you get with the in the Aprilia SXR 160 is what you get in the new SXR 125 – digital instrument cluster, wraparound all-LED lights, USB charging port and Bluetooth connectivity (as an option). Instead of ABS, it only gets CBS (Combined Braking System), which is mandatory on two-wheelers in the 150cc-and-above category in India.

The new SXR 125, which comes with a 12V, 5.0 Ah MF battery and a seven-litre fuel tank, is available in four colours – Glossy Red, Matt Blue, Glossy White and Matt Black.

Commenting on the new product, Diego Graffi, chairman and MD, Piaggio India said, “The Aprilia SXR 125 is an another exciting experience at the most appealing engine category, the 125cc. Our engines offer the best with three valves and clean emission fuel injection technology and are an interesting combination of riding experience and fuel utilisation.”

The Aprilia SXR 125 can be booked online with a Rs 5,000 payment and at Piaggio showrooms, once the lockdowns are lifted across various states in the country.
